Rudd voyaged as often as possible with his family, but he grew up mainly in Overland Park, Kansas. Harboring an unmistakable fascination for theater, he enlisted at the University of Kansas to study drama. After two years of excellent work, he earned the Spencer Tracy Scholarship to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles.
