They sought to create a new national identity for the country through depictions of rugged, isolated landscapes. Primarily based out of Toronto, individual members of the Group of Seven explored a great deal of the Canadian wilderness.

They used exhibitions to promote their works and nationalist agenda and made an indelible mark on Canadian art history.
