          Dr. Salami-Boukari explained that this book project took birth in her experience of teaching “Selected African Women Writers” at SUNY at Buffalo, NY, as well as “Modern African Literature,” and “Literature of the Black world” at Western Illinois University.

The need for further background information and the necessity of providing the students with supporting materials for a better understanding of the socio-historical and cultural contexts Modern African Literature was rooted in became acute as semesters rolled by.  As such, though Modern African Literature: Critical Perspectives on Gender and Culture was written with amateur audiences in mind, it is not limited to students reading.
